Renovation

West Auckland

This 1950’s bach was located amongst the bush in the unstable Waitakere hills of West Auckland. It had been added onto over the years, but was long overdue for renovation.  The project involved installing a huge in-ground concrete reinforced retaining wall at the rear of the house to prevent the house from sliding down the hill. This included new foundations to half the house, new exterior wall and roof framing, a new roof, new weather boards, aluminum joinery, interior wall and ceiling linings, and kitchen. To add to this, access to the site was challenging, and most materials had to be carried on to the site by hand. Needless to be said, it required a fair amount of problem solving!

After: The chocolate coloured fibre cement weather boards with stainless steel corner soakers work well with the surrounding bush setting.

The Process: With the original walls removed, new foundations and exterior walls were built.

The Process: New foundations were completed, and new exterior walls followed. The owners lived in the house while the work was completed. That’s the old kitchen bench which is still operational.
